Ten Leadership Lessons from the Past Season of The J Curve and More!

Hello everyone,

We’re back after a brief winter break :)

To no surprise at all, SEC approved 11 spot bitcoin ETFs including Brazil’s very own crypto asset manager Hashdex. To discuss what that means for the industry, I sat down with Marcelo Sampaio, founder and CEO at Hashdex for the upcoming episode of the J Curve. Here’s a snippet of our conversation 👇🏻

Stay tuned for the full episode release, but before we fully transition to the new season, we wanted to take a second and reflect on all the words of wisdom that were shared with us by some of the best founders and investors in Latin America.

1️⃣ Execution is more important than planning. Sound plan is wasted on failed execution. As a team you need to be aligned on the big goals you want to achieve and be really flexible on how to get there

2️⃣ Vulnerability is a must-have trail of great leaders. It empowers leaders to embrace their humanity and build deeper connections with there teams

3️⃣ To build a valuable and impactful business in the long run, you have to be ready to make big sacrifices in the short-term

4️⃣ When doing business in Brazil and other markets with complex regulations and bureaucracy, startups must be very strategic about building a hard to replicate tech products and designing their go-to-market approach

5️⃣ Learning to detach oneself from a startup is a difficult but essential skill for founders: emotional attachment can cloud judgment and impede progress

6️⃣ To stay relevant from zero to post-IPO founders need to learn how to scale their leadership skills and delegate. That means constantly stretching yourself, maintaining mental flexibility as well as surrounding yourself with people better than you in mission critical tasks

7️⃣ When making complex decisions, prioritize your intuition over rational logic. That will help escape herd mentality

8️⃣ Startups die of suicide not homicide: build your business around serving your customers needs and don’t worry about what competitors are doing. The score will take care of itself

9️⃣ Team conflicts destroy value and kill productivity in a startup. Radial transparency is the best conflict-prevention approach

🔟 Storytelling is the secret sauce of fundraising success. Founders need to learn how to sell a vision and a team; how to communicate the unique value proposition and why the timing is right
